Language tools and debugging

Deskless 3.0 is available for iPhone and iPad. Android 3.0 is in review on Google Play; Android 2.1 differences are noted.

Open a project and the source file you want to inspect. Place the caret at the relevant symbol. On Apple devices, open Project Tools → Language; Android presents the language actions directly in Project Tools. These local tools do not require an AI provider or Pro. In 3.0, definition, references, rename, documentation and quick fixes are also available directly from the editor; see Go to Definition and find references.

Choose an action

Source Available tools
JavaScript and TypeScript Diagnostics, completion, definition, references, symbols, rename, formatting and supported code fixes
Python Syntax diagnostics, completion, definition, references, symbols and rename
HTML, CSS and JSON/JSONC Local diagnostics, completion, symbols and formatting

Python formatting and code fixes are not included. Web-language actions do not provide project rename, definition or reference navigation. Highlighting a language does not imply that it has a compiler, runtime or semantic language service.

Choose Diagnostics to inspect problems, Complete for suggestions, or a navigation action to find a symbol. A result can show the captured source before you open it in the editor. If the live file has changed, capture again rather than relying on an old location.

Review changes before applying

Rename, formatting and supported code fixes show proposed changes. Review the before/after text, then choose Apply Reviewed Edits on Apple devices or Apply to editor on Android. The app checks that the captured project revisions still match before applying.

Changes go into document drafts. Save when you want to write them to the project. If another edit makes the proposal stale, request fresh results. These checks prevent an earlier analysis from replacing newer typing.

Debug a small program

Configure a supported entry first using Run, Test and Preview.

  • Apple devices: open the Debug surface, add breakpoints as path:line entries, then choose Debug Project. A bare line number refers to the entry file.
  • Android: place the caret on a line and choose Toggle breakpoint at line… in Project Tools, then Debug.

Use Continue, Step In, Step Over and Step Out to move through execution. Inspect the recorded call frames and local values. Stop ends the session. Local values are bounded snapshots; this is not an arbitrary expression or editable-watch console.

Python uses its tracing debugger and can pause when an exception is raised, even when the program later catches it. JavaScript/TypeScript debugging supports functions, calls, blocks and loops, and in 3.0 also async/await, Promise callbacks, generators, async generators and for await, with stepping that stays attached to the call you are following. Android 2.1 supports synchronous code only. Dynamic code and some other constructs report an unsupported-debugging result; ordinary Run and Test support a broader language surface.

Keep Deskless open during a debugging session. Paused and running sessions have time limits and are not background jobs.
